I wasn't quite sure how I was going to feel about the two authors thing in this one. As I've looked into it a bit, I've found that both have good reputations. That doesn't mean it was going to work with them trying this together. Well, it did work.I think what helped is the every other chapter different viewpoint thing they did. Then, reading the author's notes at the end of the book, it looks like each author wrote primary one voice.Sometimes it seems like I was 18 eons ago, other times it seems like only yesterday. I also had a lot of responsibilities at that age as my father was disabled and I'm the 2nd of 4 kids. So I would like to think I'm a pretty good judge of what is authentic sounding in the "teenager who is expected to be an adult but still obey like a child" area. The two ladies hit it out of the ballpark there.There was also something about Bishop's inner dialogue, the push and pull of addiction, that rang true for me. I am not an addict so I don't have the first hand experience in this matter, but it seemed like it could be the way of it for some.Of course, being a YA type of romance, there is some predictability to the story. But that doesn't take away from it being a sweet and sometimes heart-wrenching tale. It definitely piqued my interest in both authors and I will be checking out more of their stuff.

I received an ARC copy by the publisher for an honest review.5 starsI have to admit, I did not know how this story would work with two different authors writing a book. The story was told from two different points of view. Nyrae wrote Bishop's point of view and Jolene wrote Penny's. Each author nailed it perfectly. The story flowed beautifully and the character development was rock solid.The story is about Bishop who is young and a rock star. He has some problems with drugs and alcohol and after some bad choices he ends up in Alaska. Penny is a kick ass girl hockey player who doesn't take crap from anybody. She's tough as nails and is in her comfort zone when she's hanging with guys or on the ice.Without giving too much away, the story of Penny and Bishop is a tale of friendship, trust, letting go, finding your inner strength and love. Their story takes the reader on a beautiful journey. The supporting characters enhance the story and create a perfect balance for Bishop and Penny. The issues discussed in the book are real and relatable. This is published for the young adult/ teen line and is appropriate for young readers. There are some make out scenes and discussion of sex. If you are looking for a growing up and coming of age love story, that is real, this is the book for you. Out Of Play is Outstanding!

This is a fantastic book. I'm disappointed I already read the first of a series of books but am unsure how many more have been released. I'll be looking for the next one.This is shocking to admit that it's one of the first squeaky clean books I've read in a long time. It's actually difficult to find a novel minus either filthy language or sex. It was refreshing.The plot involved a female hockey player who lives in Alaska. Her mother has rental housing. A male stayed in one of the units to get clean from drugs. His guardian had no idea that Bishop was still using yet trying desperately to get clean. I won't give the plot away, but this becomes an unexpected romance.Actually, there was some profanity, but it was much less than any book I've read in a long time. I think you'll enjoy the different subject matter. It did take me awhile to get into the story.O. Miller

Classic Young Adult romance book (in a good way). Two great characters, struggling with their own issues, finding something in each other. I laughed, I definitely cried, and I had moments of fabulous swoonage. And I wasn't sure how the ending was going to play out, but I was extremely satisfied with how it wrapped up. It did take me a bit to get sucked in, and I'm not entirely sure why...but the book hit its stride in the middle.There were even some fabulous secondary characters in the book -- I really loved Gary's role with Bishop. But the surprise highlight of the book, for me, was Gramps. He was exactly what both Penny and Bishop needed.

I started out like any other YA romance, the troubled boy and the feisty girl who woukd save him. But I must say, the story took a turn I didn't expect. The romance was sweet and tentative. But what really got to me was both Penny's and Bishops relationship with Gramps. And Bishop and Gary. From being A story about first love and young love it became about different kinds of love, trust, acknowledging your own weeknesses, standing up for yourself. Yes, I truly enjoyed this read.

My favorite part about the whole book is Penny! This is probably the only book I can remember where the girl appears to be stronger than the guy. I LOVED IT!! She wasn't sitting around complaining about her life and she didn't take any crap. Don't get me wrong. I was digging Bishop too. I mean come on, He's a hott drummer but it was just refreshing to read a book about a strong heroine. The story line was also something a little out of the "norm" so it kept things interesting to read. Great job to Jolene Perry and Nyrae Dawn! You've done it again!

I could not stop reading this story. The characters were amazing. Bishop is the hot bad boy who is actually a good guy. We all love that. Penny is the strong gorgeous girl we all want to be. The supporting characters help make it an entertaining and heart felt story. It is even a little believeable that a hot rock star would fall for small town girl in Alaska. You'll enjoy it. Just read it.

I loved the evolution of Bishop and Penny. The typical angst of teenage romance exacerbated by fame and the anxieties that come with said fame. I've never read anything from Jolene Perry, but after this read I definitely will in the future.

I bought this board book for my 1-year-old daughter and she absolutely loves it. She has no idea what sort of horrible tragedy caused a man to dress like a bat an fight crime, but she doesn't care! Thankfully, the book doesn't dwell on Bruce Wayne's past, or the rouges gallery he fights, but mainly on the shapes of Gotham.The book covers basic shapes of: square, triangle, rectangle, circle, oval, star, and includes my daughter's favorite... the bat. My daughter loves to point out the shapes and find the hidden ones on the page. The book is made from solid cardboard material that withstands my daughter's rough handling of the pages.I would recommend this to fans of Batman who hope to spark an interest early in a child's life.

I originally bought this book for my son (1.5 yo) but deep down it was really for me. We've enjoyed it and he has really learned how to identify shapes because of it. Board book that can take a beating and a nibble here and there. Happy with the purchase.

My 2 1/2 year old learned his shapes just after a couple of times of reading this to him. He LOVES this book. It's perfect for a Batman fan and perfect for teaching shapes :-)

This is ADORABLE! I got this for my niece's first birthday so her parents can give her a head start with shapes and of course, Batman. The pages are thick and sturdy, the drawings are bright and bold. This is one that will last a couple of years at least.

Just right for introducing little ones to the super hero without being overly comic book style. It is softened in illustration and tone.

Michael Moore has a lot of good points in this book. If half of the information in this book is true (and I believe it is), it is apparent that Americans are getting the wake-up call that we require. A very revealing book.The book is definitely one-sided. I consider myself to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. Even I found myself a little taken aback that Moore couldn't find anything positive to say about the state of the "state". I know that's not the purpose of the book, however, it is hard to take him as completely credible when he doesn't even allow for the illusion of a balanced look. Of particular annoyance to me was his chapter of "We're Number One". Not one positive remark in this chapter, when clearly America is number one in a whole host of positive things as well. I did not take this book as an assault on America, I just find it hard to lend credence to a host of the claims here, when there is no acknowledgement in the book of the good things that are going on...however few they may be.That being said I found a lot of thought provoking items here. I liked that he did acknowledge that there is very little difference between Democrats and Republicans and really not that much difference between Bush's policies and Clinton's. I also thought his observations about Ken Lay, Enron, and our situation in the Middle East, and Bush's "Bite Me" foriegn policy were very astute and unfortunately pretty close to "nail on the head". Considering the book was was written well before Sept 11th, it's kind of humbling to know the signs have been there for a long time and we just didn't see it.Good, eye-opening book. I think it is far more factual than hyperbole.

"Stupid White Men" is a liberal screed, skewering the Bush family, Republicans, whites, and the wealthy and blaming them for many of the modern world's ills. Ok, that seems pretty fun, and it is... for a while. Moore has done enough research from secondary sources and media websites that he's not making stuff up, but he's more of a savvy hobbyist than an expert in the fields he covers. And he covers a lot of ground: the eleven chapters are divided thematically into discussions about things like the Bush family, lames whites, lame men, American parochialism, etc. He even helpfully documents his research in the "Notes and Sources" section, but it all comes from mainstream newspaper articles. That doesn't make it untrue, just underresearched, more of a college term paper than a serious look at the American system. When he offers advice, a la Thomas Friedman, on how to resolve the problems in the middle east or the former Yugoslavia, he's way out of his league.The book is fun, it's cute, and it may give voice to some of the same outrage that you've felt from time to time. Moore unapologetically only provides one side of the story, coming off as more of a wiseacre who spends a lot of time trying to crack the code of modern political rhetoric. And that's ultimately the part of the book that gets tiring. The tone of voice just grates, until this reader was skimming through the paragraphs of breathless outrage in order to get to the substance of the arguments. Moore's writing style hovers somewhere between the apoplectic college sophomore writing for the school paper and the sarcastic talking heads who blow steam on Sunday morning political shows.It's an interesting book, a fun weekend read, and some of the anecdotes are eye-opening. But it's not terribly serious or groundbreaking. A book to pass around to your friends without worrying about whether they ever return it to you.

Michael Moore is great at showing the stupidity and the lies that come through the media and from the conservative right, and even sometimes from the democrat left. I have long appreciated Moore's work for social jsutice and worker's rights and intelligent discourse and getting us to change our ways to take care of the planet, and to take care of each other.This book falls short in a few places when his soapbox seems to large, and every now and again his statements are made with such a wide sweep, and not backed up with references, that I am left wondering if that's him being hyperbolic, rhetorical, or if he really thinks that his statement is true.Overall, though, another important work from one of the few ordinary guys working hard to expose the truth, and expose the lies, of the republican right, of corporate america, and of others in the public sphere of discourse who put their own greed in front of the good of the people.

If you only read one book this year, read this one. Even if you cannot read, have someone read it to you.Michael Moore has presented a brilliant, humorous and insightful look at what is going wrong in not only America, but the world at large if one is so inclined to think it out a little further.The well-documented facts he stands behind lay waste to the late election disaster and are a source of scivvy-rash for staunch Republicans everywhere. His book asks how can they defend the actions of the Thief-In-Chief and his bumbling cohorts in suborning the Constitution to claim the top spot? There are just too many loose ends in this whole scenario.Curious though, Bush ratings are at 75-80% approval, yet Michael's appearances across the country are completely packed, filled to overflowing. Those 100 people in Omaha used by the pollsters must not be reflecting the views of the nation. The news media would sure like us to believe that though.
