Jolynn Raymond takes you by the hand and guides you through her domestic discipline relationship in such a way that you learn not only from her, but with her. For someone who is interested in entering a DD or power exchange relationship, I would say this is a must read. It is informative, direct, and she speaks from experience with always an emphasis on safety. For those of you who have a spanking or anal kink, there are delightful chapters that you might want to read through a couple of times (first for education, and then "strictly" for your own pleasure). Though Ms. Raymond is the dominant in this F/F relationship, it is important to note that her suggestions are applicable to all couples since gender has little to do with being a dominant or a submissive. I would even go out on a limb and say that vanilla relationships could benefit from some aspects of this book.On the other hand, if you're not looking for a "how to" but instead a love story of two people who are totally committed to each other (with a realistic "view from the window" experience), you won't be disappointed. In every descriptive instance, there is love and sincerity ... from the punishments to playtime ... with honesty always at the forefront.Whether you are in a DD relationship, looking to start one or just curious how one couple lives within such a loving lifestyle - this is a great read for you. I personally find real romance stories more erotic than fiction, (don't tell anyone I said that) and am confident that you will, too.
I thought this was largely good. As an introduction to 24/7 M/s lifestyle, it was very helpful. As an introduction to the question “how to approach domestic discipline,†again, very helpful, and where the book really shined was by taking on the question, “So, you think you are ready for this responsibility?†and addressing head-on, the idea that ownership is a one-way street. We don’t talk enough, in the community, about the huge responsibility involved, and I think it does a disservice to couples who think they want this.However, the book could have been shorter, by maybe 20%, and suffers from repetition, to the point of distraction. The author sometimes suffers from an inability to make their points, and build their thesis and so some of the work feels overstuffed.If you are considering this lifestyle, however, and wondering where (or how) to begin, this would be a good book to pick up.
Ms. Raymond is certainly knowledgeable in her understanding of this lifestyle; that said, the title is a bit misleading since Taken in Hand and Domestic Discipline are not necessarily interchangeable terms. We were seeking more information about the former, but got a lot more of the latter. Also, the entire last half of the book is an introduction to the 'community' surrounding this lifestyle, and frankly does not hold much value for a monogamous, exclusive couple that is looking to explore boundaries together.
Very much enjoyed the book. I appreciated the author making points throughout the book regarding consent and abuse. Sometimes that needs to be driven home.
Good (and an easy) read as an eye opener for TIH relationships. Wish Ms. Raymond had offered more examples from Her own relationship or from Others in the Lifestyle.
I found it generic, which she may have intended. Did have some interesting notes. If you are into 24/7 you may find this useful.
An educational and informative book. I'd recommend reading it if your into or curious about the lifestyle . A thumbs up
