In grade school, he remembers, he was in a fight when the other boy's parole officer suddenly showed up, but instead of intervening, the officer watched. After Garbrandt's born-again uncle was released from prison and took Garbrandt under his wing, Garbrandt became serious about wrestling. By his early 20s, he was a talented wrestler and occasionally took on a mixed martial arts fight but kept and getting in trouble. Then, Garbrandt's brother learned of Maple's remarkable story on Facebook; Garbrandt met the boy and had an epiphany about how the influential people in his life had been leading him to God. Born and raised in Uhrichsville, Ohio, Garbrandt currently lives and trains in Sacramento, California, as a member of Team Alpha Male. He and his wife, Danny, are expecting their first child.

Very well written story of a small town kid who makes it into the big time in spite of all odds. The fact that he reaches out takes a young man with cancer on the road to success with him brings tears to the eyes, joy to the heart and hope for tomorrow’s leaders.
This was not your standard bio. This book really allows you to get into the mind of a fighter and understand the process behind the training.
This is a story about a young man in my area that had a dream, not only for himself but for a young boy battling cancer!! I couldn't hardly put the book down... a must read!!
This is a great book, well written that has a brutally honest view of Cody Garbrandt’s life. He’s very unlifting with his story. It’s a good read and investment in your time. Highly Recommend for anyone especially anyone involved in Martial Arts and Fighting!

This is such a great story. Following Cody’s rise to the top and the little boy he brought with him is so heart warming. Belt or no belt, Cody will always be a winner in my book. I hope he and Maddux both continue to climb high.
