This is an Outstanding book! Way to go Sheri Koones! This book, like Sheri Koones' previous book gives multiple examples of modular homes, except this book does so through out the world. Each modular house's story is around 4 to 6 pages long, with multiple pictures, floor plans, and text. What I liked about this book, over her previous book, is this book introduced me to some "new" ideas. (Or at least ideas that I had not heard of previously). There are also different rating agencies throughout the world, for energy efficiency, and this book mentions some of them and how the owners of these modular houses adapted their building techniques to fit local sites, and situations. No "honest" critique would only say good things, so... I didn't like this books tearing down of Victorian homes, to be replaced with new modular homes. There is room for all kinds of homes in this world, including old, Victorians. Sheri Koones would be an invaluable resource if you ever decide to build a modular home, and her books are the next best thing to her personally being there. This is a Outstanding Book, filled with great ideas and Ms. Koones did a outstanding job writing it! I can hardly wait for her next book!

I have the entire series of the Prefabulous books and love them. If I could ask one thing I'd ask there be one created for "average" homes that don't cost so much. There are some smaller homes featured in some of the books but most look way over the average budget. Still it's a great book and I've spent hours on the couch reading it and looking at the illustrations. Very good books (I recommend the entire series of her books).

Probably building on her prior books, which I have not seen, this one surveys utilization of sustainable, environmental-friendly technology almost around the world in a beautifully photographed volume. Always on the lookout for ideas and details that I would like to adapt and/or use in a "dream home," the many homes in many extraordinary settings provided me with literally a wheelbarrow full of ideas and dreams. Plus, with a lot of my reading on solar passive and sustainable tech being dated, this survey really showed me how greatly this area has progressed in these recent years, and beautifully so! Seeing some of the homes being pre-fabricated reminded me of time in Southeast Alaska where many of the nicest and most efficient homes were pre-fab and then barged up from Washington state and put in place. This volume will not only be on my coffee table but is going to be and already is being read and enjoyed immensely!

Wonderful book with lots of information for sourcing renewable/green materials. Floor plans of the homes are helpful ad the houses are around the world so there are multiple perspectives.

This new book is a highly innovative, stylized, beautiful table top guide to some of the worlds most spectacular homes - that also happen to be energy efficient. Each featured home is spectacularly shown and gave me tons of ideas. Its rare to get so many ideas for both enhancing the beauty and style of your home; and for making it sustainable and green. Whether you want to improve the home you have, are looking to purchase, or build this is a must read. It makes an ideal gift as well.

This is the first book I know of that allows Vegans to not be perfect without guilting them. This is an imperfect world, and the vegan community is like Democrats vs. Republicans. If you don't do it "their" way, you're damned. Sorry, but that's what it's turned into. Folks, this is an imperfect world. Just do the best you can. For me, that means avoiding obvious meat, fish, fowl, dairy and eggs, but allowing incidental animal by-products in an otherwise vegan food. This has allowed me not to go obsessive compulsive crazy. For you it might be different. I know this book is geared toward younger folks, but I wish it wasn't, because it applies to all. I'm 63, and I wish I had this book years ago. This book is like a sigh of relief.

I saw the author on Dr. Oz. Decided immediately to purchase this cookbook. I do not like to eat meat for ethical & health reasons & have been searching for a good cookbook with easy to make recipes that I can cook for family & friends. I have read the cookbook completely. I am really looking forward to making some of her recipes. Great price for a very good cookbook.

Great book for someone who doesn't want to go fully vegan, but isn't afraid to try some vegan healthy choices.

The first recipes we've tried are Fabulous. Definitely a help in staying out of eating "ruts" and yet maintaining our chosen way of eating.

This is THE comprehensive book on mindfulness. I would suggest it to someone who is of intermediate level ( a couple of months) of mindfulness practice to try it out. The reason being that after a couple of months of practice without a teacher you may end up on a plateau and not know what or why you're trying out something.To give my own example: i started with Headspace app and after finishing all the basic and intermediate levels i knew that mindfulness meditation helps but the app is limited enough and will not help you make the connection between concentration on breathing or bodyscan or visualization and its bearing on meditation and in short you'll be left with insufficient information. Then i looked into books by Dan Harris and even his second book on meditation is comprehensive it may not give you the full gist of why some types of meditation practice helps under certain circumstances e.g. metta and noticing. There always felt a question of 'why am i doing this now?'Joseph's book is comprehensive enough to cover almost all questions that an intermediate meditator might face; note that this is not a book about religion or buddhism but a book strictly on mindfulness. Things like metta and noticing finally cleared up and i finally got to know the answer on why a meditator should do them and under what circumstances. The source of this book is through his talks on 'Satipatthana sutta' and available on dharmaseed.org I would suggest hearing those talks because he gives examples (some of which have not been sourced into the book) and Joseph makes even hearing about meditation fun. And use this book as a reference when you're done with almost 46 hours of talk on Mindfulness.Happy meditating!

I believe this to be the magnum opus of Joseph Goldstein's writings. This book is physically exquisite. Sounds True did a fine job of editing and publishing this book. The book is derived from a series of lectures on a particular sutta (talk) of the Buddha, the Satipatthana Sutta, which is found in a collection of talks called the Majjhima Nikaya. (The Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha, edited by Bhikkhu Nanamoli and Bhikkhu Bodhi, Wisdom Publications). However, the sutta itself is also to be found as an appendix in Goldstein's new book. Goldstein's lectures were given at the Forest Retreat of the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts. Goldstein used, for these lectures, a recent interpretation of this sutta by a Buddhist monk Analayo, named Satipatthana: the Direct Path to Realization, Windhorse Publications. Over a series of retreats Goldstein systematically commented on every verse of the sutta,using the Venerable Analayo's commentary as an comparative guide for his own commentary. This kind of commentary is a classical method of working with a sutta in the Buddhist world. ( Also, Sounds True has issued the actual talks as a three part cd series, Abiding in Mindfulness.)The Satgtipatthana Sutta is meant to be a complete and sufficient description of a particular form of meditation that is called vipassana or Insight Meditation. (This meditation has also just been called Mindfulness and has become increasingly popular as a means for reducing stress.) The Buddha says that if this sutta's methodology is strictly adhered to, it will led to realization or Enlightenment. Goldstein takes that claim very seriously. His book reflects a careful, years long, relationship to both this sutta and to the meditations revealed by the Buddha. I believe Goldstein's work to be one of the most complete and beautifully written books about Buddhist meditation, I have read in the fifty years of my own Buddhist practice.So what thematic concerns drive the content of Goldstein's commentary? He addresses four major foundations of inquiry for this form of Buddhist meditation. These four are mindfulness of Body, Feelings, Mind, and the Dhammas. 'Body' is here understood as physical reality, the actual physical basis of the phenomena given to consciousness.' Feelings' include the whole range of emotive reactions to the phenomena being investigated. 'Mind' describes the vehicle for consciousness and its characteristics which help and also hinder realization. Finally, the larger part of Goldstein's book considers the fourth foundation, the Dhammas. This word is from Pali which is the language which the Theravadin school of Buddhism used for its texts. "Dhammas" includes an encyclopedic collection of all those conceptual factors which the Buddha considered necessary for the complete liberation from suffering. Such factors include both negative hindrances and positive aids in one's meditative investigation of Liberation.Goldstein says four qualities of mind are necessary for this investigation: Ardency, Clearly Knowing, Mindfulness, and Concentration. Briefly these qualities of mind can be described as dedication, a deep knowing of that which is being investigated, a consistent and close awareness of all phenomena being investigated, and, finally, a capacity for single pointed or intense concentration of the subject being examined. Goldstein's commentary is practical and breaks down the various aspects of mindfulness practice into short sections, which I find easier to study and absorb. This one's a keeper and a book I'll recommend to others.

Iâ€™m a fairly novice Buddhist and (while only one section into the book thus far) am completely in love with this book. CONSICE. Fast paced, broken down into smaller segments so it reads quickly and doesnâ€™t feel like he goes on about anything in particular, well written, thought provoking, introspective, uses lots of source material and quotes. Fairly unbiased thus far between different Buddhist denominations (which is what I wanted). Aspects I havenâ€™t completely agreed with were still relevant when viewed through my own ideas (not very Buddhist but whatever ðŸ˜). Excellent book! This is my first real book on Buddhism, so if I can understand and learn from it odds are so can you (;

This is a great follow up to Joseph Goldstein's (and Jack Kornfield's) "Seeking the Heart of Wisdom". This book repeats some of the finer points of the aforementioned book and goes into more detail than his other works. I have been meditating for a few years and there were certain sections that discussed problems that I am currently facing. This definitely isn't a beginner's book so if you are new to Buddhism / meditation you may be better off starting with "One Dharma". I would recommend this book to someone who has taken a meditation retreat before or someone who is already familiar with some of the content in this book. It is definitely not an easy read, as the other reviewer pointed out, although the information contained is definitely priceless. Would recommend to everyone who is interested in learning more about Buddhist meditation from the Theravada tradition.

I often wondered about the sources for parts of the BCP. This book was the answer book for me. I recommend it for a deeper appreciation. We are not all sufficiently versed in the Bible to know or understand why a verse was significant 500 years ago (and still today). I got this book at the same time as I got The Book of Common Prayer, a Biography by Alan Jacobs. They serve different purposes, but together they have enriched my understanding of, and appreciation of, the BCP.

We are using this book in adult bible study. It is a great companion to the Book of Common Prayer.

Excellent book. Bought nine more to share. Would highly recommend it. Using it for Lenten study guide. Everyone loves it.

As a relatively new Episcopalian, I have a great fondness for the prayer book. This edition is beautiful but not bulky. The ribbon markers are handy and the binding is very high quality. It would make a great gift.

Interesting historical background and helpful information - but centered around BAD theology. Robertson bizarrely asserts that the BCP is designed to provide a common framework for prayer while allowing massive disagreement on dogma. It's one thing to argue over the issue of "Election" but quite another to go off the rails like some in the Episcopal Church have done (i.e. with Wiccan ceremonies). I seriously doubt the original author of the BCP would have been OK with Bishop Spong denying the divinity of Christ. This book includes a preface by Presiding Bishop Katharine who similarly claims that the original BCP was "a way to seek healing among a divided people." What? No way. They needed a prayer book because the Church of England left Rome - not because King Henry VIII was trying some modern feel good "diversity" approach. (And this is rich considering the Presiding Bishop's atrocious behavior in punishing parishes who have chosen to leave The Episcopal Church over its fluffy approach to Christ - she has actually sold church property to Muslims instead of the leaving Episcopalians, even when offered good money for the properties.) I hate to ding the author for his professed association with the Presiding Bishop but his mushy theology is clearly on par with the new direction of The Episcopal Church. Well, count this as yet another reason why I'm glad I've also left The Episcopal Church for a more grounded and sensible traditional Anglican congregation.

Thank goodness I found it on amazon slightly higher than at book fair but less than retail price.

I didn't enjoy reading this book. I read to my 10 month in spanish so that he learns the language not stereotypes. I was offended by one of illustrations, it clearly shows a drunk man opening a bottle of champagne. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it but nonetheless it was unnecessary.

I had never read Nancy Drew books, so I started to read Book 1 to determine what I thought of it. I found that in just the first several pages, there were three characters who had lost one or both parents in childhood. The 5-year-old child rescued by Nancy had lost both of her parents due to an accident, that child's mother had also lost both of her parents when she was little, and Nancy herself, who is 18 in the story, had lost her mother. I was concerned that my sensitive, introspective 9-year-old granddaughter might be troubled by those scenarios and worry about her own life, so I returned the set. I am surprised not to find other reviewers expressing concern about this, but I believe that it is important to take into account, even if only so adults can prepare children - especially younger, impressionable ones - for what they will encounter in the book.

Truly old school. My mother in law got them for my 8 year old and I found myself reading them for old times sake. A bit serious, stiff language, and dated in some references. Yet we were interested in them! I was surprised how badass Nancy was in some ways (changing tires, repairing small engines, outsmarting men) despite the book referring to her looks frequently.

Bought this set for 10 year old granddaughter. Just yesterday she told me she has read the first four books and started the 5th while with me. School assignment requires minimum of 20 minutes reading per day - she chose this set and now we are sharing our love for the Nancy Drew series of books. This 'Foster Child' could hardly read a year ago. Amazing!

An absorbing narrative describes the major contributions of this celebrity, a little known aviation pioneer who began her flying career when she married Charles Lindbergh. I enjoyed discovering the interesting family backgrounds of both Charles and Anne.Anne had decided to be involved in aviation before meeting Charles Lindbergh. She became a competent power pilot but most people are unaware that she was the first woman and tenth American to hold a first-class glider license. Even more intriguing, she became a competent radio operator and Morse code operator. The safety and success of the many long Lindbergh flights were due in large part to her navigation skills and radio skills in addition to her co-pilot duties. Kathleen Winters' description of their harrowing adventures as they flew untested routes above the Arctic Circle, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean causes one to wonder why they survived when so many other aviation pioneers died as a result of their efforts.

This is a fascinating biography of one of the best writers and diarists of the twentieth century. Mrs. Lindbergh courageously recorded each stage of her life honestly and thoughtfully. The author references some of those to paint a complete picture of a truly remarkable person. Most people are familiar with Anne Morrow Lindbergh as simply the wife of Charles Lindbergh. The book captures her priviliged upbringing, Smith College years, the courtship with Lindbergh and their many flights together, the tragic killing of their firstborn, her years in England and France and her life as a writer and mother. She has never been given the accolades her amazing diaries, letters and books deserve. This book manages to remedy some of that.

Kathleen Winters has written fascinating book of Anne Morrow Lindbergh from both a historical and a feminine point of view. Taking her cue from Anne's own diaries and journals, she reveals that Anne was a person in her own right. She is not merely a follower of Charles, she is his right-hand woman,fearless in a world that has yet to be conquered. Aviation was in its infancy when she and Charles undertook the mission to discover possible routes to the far corners of the earth. Traveling over the Arctic Circle with them you can almost feel the bone-chilling cold experienced in their frail craft and you can feel the excitement as they are welcomed in exotic places. The maps themselves tell the incredible story of their journeys. I felt almost as though I were experiencing the cold of the Arctic and the fear that anything could happen as they were so out of touch with those on the ground. Anne's mastery of the Morse code was an invaluable asset as they crisscrossed the Atlantic, traveling to places we consider a normal journey now. The book opened my eyes to what a daring person she was. Factual and Fascinating!

I found the book most interesting and informative with so much attention to details all through the book, an excellent read.

There was a time when Charles Lindbergh was the most famous man on Earth. His 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic caught the world's imagination and the public couldn't get enough of him. When he decided to get married he made looking for a wife into a project. Anne Morrow was the daughter of a wealthy and prestigious family and while Anne didn't quite take to Charles at first, it wasn't long until she was caught up in his charisma and the thrill of flying, and they were soon married.Kathleen Winters has given us a very interesting biography of Anne that necessarily includes material on Charles, but usually from Anne's perspective. The subtitle of the book is "first lady of the air" and most of the book is about Anne's achievements as a pioneering woman in powered flight and gliding. The majority of the book focuses on two major expeditions Charles and Anne made to Asia in 1931 and all around the North and South Atlantic in 1933. Anne was not just along for the ride on these long and dangerous trips to open flying routes around the globe. As Charles noted when asked about taking his wife along on these hazardous flights, "she is crew". Anne operated the radio, used Morse code, and much more. The radio in those days was much more art than the standard technology it has become.Winters provides great maps of these great journeys along with some terrific photographs. The revolutionary nature of these flights is made clear by the medal Anne was given by the National Geographic Society for her part in opening air routes around the globe.While the book does cover the major biographical details including the kidnapping and murder of their firstborn with the subsequent trial of Hauptmann, everything but the flying is covered in short form, but all the major points are touched on.I found Winters' treatment of Charles being given Service Cross of the German Eagle by Goering most interesting. It has become usual to bash Lindbergh for accepting this award, but the accusers rarely put the event in context. It happened only a few weeks after the "peace in our time" four-way pact signing between Britain, France, Germany, and Italy and weeks before Kristallnacht. The Lindbergh's had stopped in Germany for eighteen days after a trip to Russia. The presentation was made without warning or announcement at a men's only dinner at the American Embassy and at the time neither Charles nor the other men at the dinner thought much about it. Afterwards, Anne expressed her concern that the white cross would become an albatross around his neck. After Kristallnacht occurred, Charles wrote in his journal, "My admiration for the Germans is constantly being dashed against some rock such as this."Winters also provides very interesting information about Anne's efforts and success as an author. I have not yet read any of Anne's writings, but this book has piqued my interest in seeking them out.This is a most interesting book about a talented an intrepid women who held her own in a marriage to one of the great historic characters of the 20th Century. Her life is instructive, inspiring, and very much worth knowing. Winters' has written an honest and interesting look at her life and accomplishments. Kitto has nothing to do with method and displays no knowledge of or interest in literary or dramatic theory. He simply knew these plays almost by heart and shows his love. He will criticize and recognize fault, but his approach is to presume that the dramatists knew what they were doing and to ask why. The book is filled with rewarding insights. no one has outgrown this book, despite its date. K. is also good at showing the development of drama and of the dramatists, the problems with which they wrestled. He also makes one aware that so often one confronts an author grappling with something--problem, technique, opportunity--for the first time. have always read his treatments while reading the plays in Greek and have always been rewarded.
