How to be your own Booking Agent is one of the most treasured books in my Music Biz resources collection. Even that I am not a musician myself, I got the book to help support my musician clients in the development of marketing their careers. To my surprise, I found that the content of the book is actually everything and more for any professional in the industry. The content is so specific, detailed and it's so full of resources that I don't even need to go anywhere else to find the answers. An extremely well written guide for anyone who wants to grow their music careers or for anyone helping musicians draft their path, getting out there in front of presenters and promoters, negotiating great gigs and profiting from successful touring. This is my complete Bible for securing gigs, my first go-to resource and one of the most seek-after books in my shelves. Not to mention that Jeri is one of the most brilliant and savvy experts in the music business. My respect to her knowledge and expertise. Thank you Jeri for such an amazing and complete book. A must-read for any performer who wants to make the hard work they invest in their career productive and worthwhile!
This is a good book that's been around for years. Unfortunately, the Kindle edition leaves out all the sidebar tips and contracts. As far as I can see, most of this is simply not available unless you either buy the print version of the book, or pay for the contracts at the product website.The omissions are mentioned inside the Kindle edition, but I didn't understand I was buying an incomplete version until I had already done it. I opted to return the ebook.

Using it, we secured a national sponsor (Real Time Farms), toured cross country four times in four years profitably, found alternative places to perform (farmers markets, senior communities, fund-raising gigs), and discovered how to tour where we want when we want instead of reacting or waiting for the ringing phone.Following her advice we hired and trained a woman to book us who then built an agency (Elite Audience! in San Diego) by adding more artists to her roster.We've recommended this book to many artists, several who have thanked us after, and we've bought three copies to give to our support team. The forms included are worth the price of the book alone, and the guidance for designing a press kit, writing your bio, how to use press to get more gigs ("It's not what you get, it's what you DO with what you get") will make you thousands of dollars.Our website (cocolafe.com) is the center of our promotion and booking materials which were created following Jeri's advice.You can use the book to tour regionally or nationally. Excellent read for anyone committed to the grind of the industry. The primary reason I love this book so much is the resources she includes at the end of every chapter that I'm still digging into to this day. I've had this book for about two years.
As a long time touring performer and self-booker I have experienced just about everything that can go wrong booking and playing shows on the road. Most of the worst things that happened were because I let my guard down trying to save myself time and effort. I should have put that time and effort into booking the gig properly and I would not have been spending twice as much time putting out fires because I booked on a verbal agreement or failed to get a deposit.If you have been fortunate to have had a good booking agent this book will give you a new respect for what they do to make the gig go smoothly and get you paid. Even if you don't end up doing most of your own booking, you will know how to evaluate a booking agent who says they are going to do it for you.
This book promises inside info on how to get your self booked. Maybe if it were still 1950. Basically, the book tells a moron how to plan and organize their day. It offers great booking tips like "make a list." Total waste of time and money.
This book helps organize your overall plan and then helps make it happen. Some of the advice can be applied to any job. I recommend it for anyone trying to get serious about the business behind music. A great read. I wish the contract examples were available on the kindle version.
